Distance
The distance between two points is the length of a straight line segment that links them.
The distance of a point from a line is the length of the shortest line segment from the point to the line. This will also be perpendicular to the line.
You are given the velocity of the car at various times. How can you approximate the distance from the car's initial starting place to where it is at the end? A table method as an introduction to integral calculus. Interactive calculus applet.
